D for DIRTY

So now that Little Fingers is playing outside so much she is getting her hands DIRTY. So she learned the sign/word DIRTY. She's saying it like a champ, and has signed it a few times. :) So I thought D for DIRTY was very appropriate!

We have gotten a lot of rain recently in the northeast so she's constantly getting DIRTY. She gets changed a few times in a day! She's also learning that she doesn't need mommy to wipe her hands off and she can do it herself :)

sign: HOT (One of Lil's new words) - appropriate for the season

I never would have imagined all the words coming out of this little girl! One of her newest words is HOT and she gets it! She blows on her food after she says and signs HOT.
**Love it***
Now I'm trying to teach her HOT in the tub because once in a blue moon when the tub water is just too HOT she'll get quite upset. Being able to carry over the understanding of HOT outside of food will be huge!

HOT is very appropriate this time of year right? For summer! It's not HOT enough yet for me to sign it, but give it a few weeks, it'll be boiling here.

(I also use HOT with describing words and opposites in therapy)

sign: GENTLE for Dog's sake

One of our new signs we sign with Ms. Little Fingers is GENTLE. She just loves jumping all over the dog and climbing and ... well you name it - she's loves him! So now we're signing GENTLE! (It turned into a situation for both of them - the dog and Lil are told GENTLE) - they surely love to rough house together!

Sign: CRAZY - because you'd be CRAZY to not take advantage of this 2-day sale!

I'm very EXCITED about this 2-day sale!

I'm going to buy Lil a few more DVDs related to our adventures OUTSIDE and things she's doing and noticing now that she's getting older (can you believe she's almost 15 months - we were just celebrating her first birthday!!)

Sign: CRAZY
(now this isn't the sign for something you are crazy about
- as in you love something).
Make a C (claw shape) handshape and turn it back and forth at the side of your head - CRAZY

sign: SMART. Product review: Signing Smart. Great ASL product for babies

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on Signing SMART's sign language products a couple months ago. ... and well, it was a hit!

Little Fingers signed TWO signs immediately (literally - during the movie)! One she already signed before (BABY) but the other she didn't!

Dr. Michelle Anthony and Dr. Reyna Linder created Signing SMART when they became new parents and quickly learned there were not many resources available for the true hectic lifestyles of parents to teach their children enriched language skills.  Dr. Anthony and Dr. Linder went to school together and got their PhDs in Developmental Psychology.

They both believe in my same philosophies of using ASL to teach sign language versus baby signs or home made signs. It's just so important to understand the importance of a philosophy I once heard in Dr. Garcia's book, Sign With Your Baby "It Takes A Language To Learn Another" - I can't stress that enough (and that's just one of the many reasons who to use ASL - we'll talk about that more later).

The use of the puppet-like bear with the very animated music and upbeat rhythms Lil was immediately interested. She signed BABY immediately and then signed PLAY. She was immediately drawn to the movie, which she isn't for many shows. She typically doesn't care about the TV (unless it's Signing Time, Fresh Beat Band and now this!).

We're happy to have stumbled upon Signing SMART. So happy that we decided to stock their DVDs and you can find their DVDs in our online store now!

Sign: SMART!

Sign: SMART - first you put your middle finger on your forehead and then twist it out (so your palm is facing your communication partner).

sign: COLD

It's winter here in the greater North East (as the weathermen say) ... it's pretty cold! But we love it! Lil doesn't seem to mind. She smiles when we sign COLD "brr"! We're very fortunate she let's us bundle her up. There was a time when she wasn't a fan of being bundled! We're loving the snow today and hoping it'll keep accumulating so we can go outside and play!
Compliments of Sign2Me
**Extra tip** the sign for COLD is the same as the sign for WINTER :)

Stay tuned for this week's snowman craft! (We're hopeful we'll still have snow!)
