We haven't sent the kiddos to see the Easter Bunny yet... haven't found a place local that we like. Where do you send your kids locally to meet the Bunny?

Yesterday (on Easter), Little Fingers received a Duck stuffed animal. She knew the word 'duck,' which I accredit all of her books, but my husband and I were just talking about how we need to keep up with her signs as we started slacking with the new baby here the past 4 weeks. We've been a little pre-occupied you could say! So I looked at it as the perfect opportunity, signed DUCK and Ta-Da! She signed DUCK and remembered the sign a few minutes later! Score! Another sign down :)

R is for REINDEER

R is for REINDEER!

Ms Little Fingers is too young for this sign but I definitely sign it while singing the ever famous REINDEER song :)

Gees so sorry life is just keeping me so busy. I think I need an assistant! Any takers?! ;) Our tutoring sessions are going in full swing over here ... we're gearing up for all these great sales for the holiday session ... but of course, we didn't forget about our letter of the week.

F is for FROG

I love this word because it reminds me of Signing Time and Baby Signing Time. For those who are long time followers, you'll remember our post with the sign FROG before. Ms. Little Fingers had Hopkins, the Signing Time FROG, on her first birthday cake. (click here)

Who doesn't have the Leap Frog magnets that you put on your frig?!










These magnets were introduced to Ms. Little Fingers two weeks ago. 

I thought she might be too young (just 15 months) but she loves them! Granted, I do not believe she is going to learn the signs herself looking at the magnets but I do believe like her other toys, when played together she will absorb the concepts and for that - I'm happy! I show her how to make the sign she's pointing to and she attends.

There you have it! We worked on joint attention and joint referencing skills. She points (references) and looks at me - I tell her what it is she's looking at!


I also attach the signs with the ABCs with my Early Intervention clients using the Leap Frog ABC magnet. They have a great set of the ABC magnets as well which is fun. Lil's definitely too young for those (15 months) but they are definitely coming next. 


A run-down about the Label & Learn Basic Signs Magnets

Pros:

• priced right (see for yourself here!)
• uses true American Sign Language
• the monkey gains the interest of the child
• sturdy (she picked up one of these magnets and tried to crush it and it didn't happen. She picked up a pizza store magnet and crushed it in half immediately).
• multi-purposeful (I use them in therapy too off of the refrigerator)

Cons:

• the size of the magnet (perhaps they could be a touch bigger)
• color might be nice

Tell me, what do you think? Think outside of the box - how can you use these magnets? Perhaps you can use dry erase markers and color in the monkey signing different signs so now you're working on following directions too! The possibilities are endless!

Sign and Read Time! Moo La La!

I love my Sign and Read times! 

Lil and I are get into a book or two every day (besides for the bedtime read - because what I'm learning is I can't sign while I'm trying to put her down for sleep because she's just too interested!). 


I have tons of favorites. I'll be posting more and more as the days go on. But to start I have Moo La La By Sandra Boynton because Lil has a Sandra Boynton section on her short bookshelf that she goes to religiously. 

Today's only the first few pages because those are the pages we recite all day, in the car, while we playing - she loves it!

sign: LIZARD for What's the Sign Wednesday

Katie from Playing with Words 365 asked for LIZARD for her post about her outside adventures. What can I say, it's just that time of year apparently no matter where you live East to West! :)

sign: FROG Hopkins

Like we mentioned last week, Lil's first birthday party was March 10th. We used Hopkins (the Signing Time frog) and her bed linens with baby animals as the theme. 


Lil's cake toppers had Hopkins on it. So Cute! She really enjoyed her first ice cream cake and regular cake experience. Hopkins was also on her banners that Sherri's Hobby Shop made for us!

She doesn't have any favorites yet, like a blanket, toy, or stuffed animals, but she surely does enjoy watching her Signing Time DVDs so Hopkins was surely appropriate!

Last week we posted the sign for READ to get ready for this week but today's the official day! 

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! 

I enjoy reading your books to my children in Early Intervention therapies and I will enjoy reading to my Lil very soon! Lil's godfather gave her her first Dr. Seuss book when she was born. We shall pull it out today and read it in celebration!

Lil loves the DOG, but he loves her just as much right back at her. 


I'm feeling bad - I think she's getting confused everytime I scold the dog, "Reilly no!" ... she looks up! The poor girl can't catch a break. When she plays, he thinks she's playing with him, and he's always nibbling (love-nibbles but nibbling none the less).  Maybe I should start signing NO and STOP to him too, what do you think?! He does surely love her though. The most hilarious thing is when he chases his tail, she laughs hysterically! Too cute. Too funny!

sign: BUTTERFLY. Check Out our Valentine's BUTTERFLY Craft!

Compliments of Melomomma! We are going to put our own spin on this great craft idea! I'm always looking for crafts to do with my little kiddos I work with and here it one. See how I incorporate sign with this craft!!  Read the whole thing and you may find extra signs!

What MeloMomma says you will need:

Toilet paper roll
red and PINK Construction paper
Glue
Tape
Scissors
Pipe Cleaner
Black Marker
Glitter

Directions: 

1.  Cut the pink paper the size to cover the toilet paper roll.

2. Cover the toilet paper roll with pink paper. (I found that glue sticks
don't necessarily work well with this!) so .. (check #3)

3. Secure it with tape!

3. Cut out a red heart for your Butterfly wings.

4. Tape it to the back of the toilet paper roll.

5. Cut out five small PINK hearts. 

6. Glue 4 onto the wings for a design. 

7. Glue one on for the face. 

8. Draw the face with a black marker.

*Decorate with glitter for more glam.

Thanks again Melo Momma. Now If you are a little more skilled in sign, perhaps you could also sign RED, CUT, and the numbers ONE and FIVE while reading the directions out loud to your children (or student).
