sign: WHERE and WIND - two new signs we're signing during our challenge

I started signing WHERE to Little Fingers.. she's not signing it back but she surely understands what I mean and will use the word herself.

I also started WINDY and she does sign WINDY (even with the littlest bit of WIND - so cute!). ... which is funny because my sister is Wendy and she couldn't separate the two at first, but now she can.

So two more words for our challenge!

WINTER'S Definitely Here and We're Going to Get SNOW!

I'm so excited, during our winter break we got SNOW flakes for Christmas Eve and we're supposed to get real snow tomorrow morning! Happy WINTER to everyone!

Sign for SNOW: 

There are two different signs for SNOW - this one above is representing slowly moving fingers (gentle wiggle if you may) representing the snow slowing falling. 

The other SNOW sign is a combo sign ... WHITE + RAIN

Sign: WINTER is the same as COLD (just obviously your mouth is saying 'WINTER' versus COLD! ;)

preparing for Hurricane Sandy ... sign: WIND & RAIN

So here in southern New Jersey everyone's buckling down to get ready for Hurricane Sandy ... she's looking pretty fierce and ready for action so we've moved car, put all outdoor stuff indoors ... my family at the shore points is preparing to lose electric for days and potential flooding ...  Irene last year supposedly has nothing on Sandy!

C for CAREFUL! 

We had an awesome morning at the beach. It was very quick but we had so much fun I can't believe it took us so long to get there! We're already planning another trip before the season is completely over! 

But the sign is definitely CAREFUL. She was fearless running into the ocean!

The water definitely got COLD after playing in the hot sun and sand ... so we left :) (It was close to nap time).

And the CAR ride! The biggest stresser of the event ... it was well! For the first time since she was a newborn - she slept 40 minutes in the CAR ride home! 

That's literally an O - M - Gosh (as Little Fingers says) moment!

sign: HURRICANE for What's the Sign Wednesday

Thanks Cari B. on Facebook for being the first to suggest our sign for What's the Sign Wednesday. We already have next week's sign too!

I hear there's already HURRICANES in Florida... not sure if that's true - I would have to have time to check the weather down there for that... I just heard it today so it's so funny that Cari asked for this sign now! (As well as the fact that we're having a major wind/thunderstorm here in NJ).


Sign: HURRICANE. You can see in the sign the facial expression. It's one of those very important parts of sign language. The facial expression here is important to emphasize the extreme weather of a HURRICANE. I hope no one is stuck in any HURRICANE situations right now.

sign: RAIN. We're recovering from lots of RAIN

Yesterday, it RAINED cats and dogs! Ironically I wouldn't sign that verbatim in ASL ("it's raining cats and dogs") but in English - it's appropriate! We'll talk about idioms in ASL another day :). 


So I spent all day in my office... actually like I said I would on Friday for the sign EARTH. Saturday was very successful at the Burlington County Women's Expo. Thank you to all the great people I met there. It truly was a very blessed busy day and I enjoyed talking to everyone. I'm so excited for some new tutoring clients I met online and in-person and some potential new class members for our great classes coming up this summer!


So today's sign RAIN because that's the only thing on my mind (the large puddles in my backyard!) at this time.

Hope your weekend was good! What did you do this weekend?

sign: SNOW. Oh winter is finally here!

We are lovers of cold and SNOW here at HearMyHands. Yesterday was the first SNOW of the real winter season. We're were very excited about this, but unfortunately because of my newly stitched thumb and Little Finger's nap schedule, we didn't go out to play :( 


But we did get some great snow and it's still on the ground! We're very happy! Perhaps we'll go out today to play! Who else has snow this lovely weekend? What's your favorite traditions when it snows? Our are usually me watching the men SNOW blow our driveway and street with the neighbors while I'm out back throwing SNOWballs for the dogs. Times have changed! Now Little Fingers is in the mix and we get to create all new traditions :)
