C is for CAREFUL (plus a couple other things)

C for CAREFUL!

We had an awesome morning at the beach. It was very quick but we had so much fun I can't believe it took us so long to get there! We're already planning another trip before the season is completely over!

But the sign is definitely CAREFUL. She was fearless running into the ocean!
The water definitely got COLD after playing in the hot sun and sand ... so we left :) (It was close to nap time).
And the CAR ride! The biggest stresser of the event ... it was well! For the first time since she was a newborn - she slept 40 minutes in the CAR ride home!
That's literally an O - M - Gosh (as Little Fingers says) moment!

sign: Guess What It Is for What's the Sign Wednesday

Trying something a little different this week for What's the Sign Wednesday - this week you get to guess ... What's the Sign!?  Hint - the sign starts with C (because it's C week) and vaguely related to the topic that I am finally going to the beach today!! I'm sure I'll have plenty of things to talk about tomorrow.

Any guesses!?

Good luck!

C is for COFFEE because it's just one of those days ...

C is for COFFEE because it's just one of those days (for our letter of the week: C). So I'm pulling up a sign from a previous post from the great Uncle Matty's COFFEE. (Read previous post here)

I rarely drink caffeine,
but some days just call for it more than others :)

letter of the week: C

The 3rd letter in our school series is C.
But what I realized is our audience is growing by the week! We now have some great fans from the American Sign Language group on Facebook so I know that brings even more variety of interests and skill levels so I'll have to spice things up a little. I've been playing with the idea of quizzes one day a week so I might try it and you can tell me what you think!

I'm still not back to school yet but I'm definitely mentally preparing for it. Well I'm back to school (my doctoral program) but not working yet. My last week of fun. What's everyone else doing this week?

some B words Ms Little Finger says/signs for B week!

I was looking back at some B signs that Ms Little Fingers says and / or signs.

1. BABY - this was a quick given. She love loves her BABY Signing Time videos so much that BABY was an early on sign (and word). Our former post on BABY

           2. BALL - she is also able to say and sign. She loves her BALL play! Problem is ... so does the dog so we have to be very careful he shares nice! Our former post on BALL

3. BANANA - another sign/word she has. She loves her BANANAS! It's not often she says "BA-NA-NA" but she can surely sign it and say "nana!". Good enough for me! Check out our first post on BANANA.

sign: TEACHER for What's the Sign Wednesday. .. get ready for school!

TEACHER - what an important sign for such important people! I am not a TEACHER but considered one quite frequently. Well perhaps .. I do teach sign language but in the schools I am a speech-language pathologist and value the need for great TEACHERS.

To all the TEACHERS getting their classrooms together this week or who started school this week - Thank you!

sign: SISTER for What's the Sign Wednesday!

Well it doesn't start with A but SISTER is a great choice for What's the Sign Wednesday!

My sister & me! My best friend :)

SISTER - now there's a tip I always provide in my classes (family signs from the nose down = female; nose up = male),

the sign SISTER is a little tricky for some without seeing it. And there's variations depending on regions. One way (like in the picture) is what I called "L's to L's" Your dominant hand has the handshape of L and your nondominant hand is an L as well (just sideways).

A is for APPLE

A is for APPLE!
I love the APPLE sign because it's an easy way to segway into other foods ... divide them into subcategories and talk about fruits versus vegetables. I love starting with APPLES. (We talked about APPLES before; it's one of Lil's signs - click here!)

Back to school time!
Enjoy!
What activities do you do for APPLE themes?

A -- letter of the week (starting our new school series)

Teachers, SLPs, and all other educational professionals all over are preparing for school to start either this week, next, or after Labor Day. Either way, it's crept up on us! I'm glad I don't have to start until after Labor Day, which allows me the time to prepare all these great signs I want to get together for you for the school year!

Each week we will have a new letter (in order) with a couple signs that start with that letter. We will also provide crafts that start with that letter, maybe a poem, book, song, and other tools associated with that letter. We'll also try to blend in some thematic signs when needed (seasons, holidays, etc.)

Stating the obvious - let's start our journey with A!

Any teachers or SLPs want to join us on this journey and write a guest post, email us! HearMyHandsLLC@gmail.com

sign: CLOWN for What's the Sign Wednesday

We laughed the whole time taking these photos - that's why there's two ... it just looked so funny! In essence, the sign is as easy as the CLOWN's nose!

Thank you Facebook fans for the What's the Sign Wednesday suggestions - keep them coming!

sign: LIBRARY - we're signing at the LIBRARY!

Today's sign is LIBRARY because tomorrow I'm busy at the local library doing a sign and read! I signed it but then found it from LifePrint so I thought his arrow illustration was better.
LIBRARY!

For those who are local, our Facebook page has the link to the library registration - it's almost full!
